The release of Trailer 2 for GTA 6 has sent the long-running GTA 6 mapping project into high gear, with project leader Garza telling IGN, "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The project, hosted on the GTA 6 Mapping Discord, now boasts 370 members, soon to exceed 400, all diving into the wealth of new information provided by the trailer.
"It’s an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza explained. "We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started." The project began after the significant leaks in September 2022, which some fans believe were subtly referenced in the opening of Trailer 2. Until now, the mapping efforts were based on those leaks and the details from December 2023's Trailer 1.
The latest map version, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is already outdated due to the new insights from Trailer 2. This trailer not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new screenshots and revealed more about the explorable areas in the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida.
Newly confirmed locations include Vice City (akin to Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border. The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of these areas and match them to real-world counterparts, aiming to refine the GTA 6 map further.
Once complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, offering fans the most detailed preview yet of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026. Should Rockstar release more assets or gameplay footage before then, the team is prepared to update the map accordingly. Only upon the game's release will they be able to assess the accuracy of their work.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. A recent incident saw a modder, who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map in GTA 5 based on the mapping project's work, forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two.
When asked about this concern last year, Garza expressed "some mild concern" but noted that the project has operated without direct interference. "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community," he said. "However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As we await further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we’ve discovered so far and the fan theories emerging from Trailer 2.
