PlayStation's latest State of Play showcase offered our first substantial glimpse of 007 First Light, the upcoming James Bond title from IO Interactive (creators of Hitman), scheduled for 2026 release.
A cinematic trailer introduced a young, inexperienced James Bond at the dawn of his secret agent career.
The trailer also confirmed the participation of Lennie James (The Walking Dead) playing a supporting role in the game.
The 007 First Light trailer reveals Bond witnessed his parents' tragic death at age 11 during a mountain climbing accident where they sacrificed themselves to save him - leaving the young boy to descend alone.
IO Interactive originally announced its Bond project in 2020 under the codename Project 007. Details remained scarce over the years, though developers confirmed early on they were crafting an original origin story completely separate from existing film continuity.
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently expressed ambitions to launch a Bond game trilogy, though this has temporarily paused development of their acclaimed Hitman series. Additional reporting in April confirmed the game will release not just for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, but also Nintendo's upcoming Switch successor.
