As if they could resist bringing back Alicia Silverstone in her iconic yellow and plaid. The beloved actress is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a highly anticipated Clueless sequel series, which will stream on Peacock.
The project is currently in the development phase, and while plot specifics remain under wraps, we know that Silverstone will star, and the series will continue the narrative from the beloved 1995 film. This new endeavor differs from the previously planned Clueless spin-off that Peacock had in the works back in 2020.
The creative team behind the series includes Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, renowned for their work on the original Gossip Girl series and its reboot. They will co-write the show alongside Jordan Weiss, and the trio will also serve as executive producers. Joining them in the executive producer roles are Amy Heckerling, the writer-director of the original film, and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are on board to produce the series.
This isn't the first time Clueless has transitioned to the small screen. After the movie's success, a television adaptation aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard taking on the role of Cher instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone's recent appearance as Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten shows her enthusiasm for revisiting the character. It's no surprise she's eager to dive back into Cher's world—we can't wait to see what's in store!
