At CES 2025, AMD unveiled its next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, though they were notably absent from AMD's keynote. Despite this, vendors showcased these RDNA 4 graphics cards on the show floor, albeit with obscured specifications. David McAfee, AMD's VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, took to Twitter / X to clarify the release timeline, stating that both models will hit the market in March 2025.

"Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally," McAfee announced. "Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!” This announcement confirms the launch month, but AMD has yet to disclose detailed specifications or pricing. It is anticipated that the RX 9070 and 9070 XT will compete in the same price and performance categories as Nvidia’s forthcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, slated for release in February.

Interestingly, despite the lack of official details, reports indicate that stock of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT has already reached retailers and is in the hands of reviewers and critics. eTeknix confirmed receiving review samples of these upcoming graphics cards, adding to the intrigue surrounding their launch.

The situation has led to speculation that AMD might have delayed the official launch to directly counter Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti, aiming to provide a head-to-head comparison with Team Green’s new GPUs. There is also speculation that pricing pressures from Nvidia may have influenced AMD's decision to delay the RX 9070 lineup's release.

The sparse information available about AMD's new graphics cards has resulted in a somewhat confusing launch narrative. A report from June 2024 highlighted Nvidia's dominance in the discrete GPU market, holding 88% of the share, while AMD captures only 12%. With no other significant competitors in the mid-range or high-end segments of the consumer graphics card market, AMD faces the challenge of strategically positioning the RX 9070 lineup to erode Nvidia's market lead.
