The Animal Festival in Fields of Mistria is an annual event, akin to other seasonal town festivities. If you miss it one year due to other in-game commitments or simply forget, don't worry—you can always catch it the following year.

Mark your calendar: The Animal Festival arrives on the 10th day of the Winter season. Depending on your current position in the seasonal cycle, this gives you plenty of time to prepare. Focus on acquiring and nurturing your animals, ensuring they are in prime condition for the festival. After all, well-cared-for animals stand a better chance of winning the top prize.

How to Win Animal Festival in Fields of Mistria

The highlight of the Animal Festival is the main event, where you can enter up to two of your farm-raised animals in the competition. You can choose one small animal (such as chickens, ducks, or rabbits) and one large animal (such as cows, alpacas, or sheep). Remember, only fully grown adults can compete.

How to Enter the Animal Festival Contest

To participate, head to the festival grounds in the center of town and speak to Josephine at the front counter. She will guide you to the two booths behind her where you can register your animals.

Josephine will share two key tips to boost your score. First, the more hearts your chosen animal has, the higher your score. You can increase an animal's hearts by petting or picking them up, feeding them regularly, and allowing them time outside on sunny days.

Second, the rarity of your animal’s coat color can also enhance your score. Animals with unique colors like pink or blue, especially if well-cared for, significantly improve your chances of winning.

When you're ready to enter your animals, speak to Terithia at the left booth for large animals, and Landen at the right booth for small animals. A menu will display your eligible animals. Once you've made your selections, return to Josephine and tell her you're ready to ‘start the judging’.

A cutscene will then play, announcing the winners of the small animal bracket from third to first place. If you outshine Hayden’s chicken Henrietta and take first place, you'll be crowned the winner of that category.

At the end of the judging, you'll receive prizes based on your performance. Note that in your first year, winning first place might be challenging due to the time required to fully nurture your animals' heart gauges. Additionally, you'll need to complete ranch-related story quests and upgrade your farm's barns and coops to unlock access to rare animals and unique coat styles.
