Once you've unlocked the Hideout in Assassin's Creed: Shadows of Edo, you can personalize it with a menagerie of adorable companions! Here's how to add animals to your very own ninja sanctuary.
Unlocking new animal companions is surprisingly simple. Whenever Naoe or Yasuke pets a cat or dog of a breed they haven't encountered before, that animal type is added to your Hideout roster. This includes various dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens – even the stray you rescue in the pre-order DLC quest, "Thrown to the Dogs."
Yasuke can also unlock smaller animals through his artistic endeavors. By painting rabbits, fox kits, tanukis, and monkeys in the wild, you'll add these charming creatures to your available options. Finally, you can purchase farm animals like oxen and goats from vendors throughout Japan for a small fee.

To add your new furry, feathered, or scaled friends, head to the Hiroma and interact with the bench to access the Hideout customization menu. Enter build mode, then select the wolf icon on the far right. This reveals all your unlocked animals, neatly categorized into dogs, cats, and "other."
Choose your desired animal and you'll be taken to an overhead view of your Hideout. Select an empty grid space to place your new companion. Remember, while you can position them initially, they'll roam freely once you exit build mode. You can add multiple instances of the same animal, but there's a limit to the total number of animals you can have in your Hideout at once. You can also easily remove or replace animals at any time.
And that's all there is to it! Enjoy your thriving, personalized Hideout in Assassin's Creed: Shadows of Edo.
