Atelier Yumia: Memory Alchemist's Land Synthesis Guide

One of the most intricate features of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is integral to nearly every aspect of gameplay. From the resources you gather to the weapons you craft, mastering Synthesis can significantly enhance your gaming experience. Here's how to maximize its potential.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis - Performed at an Alchemist’s altar, this is essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials required for other Synthesis processes. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, allowing you to return at any time to Synthesize. In areas where building is possible, such as cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to facilitate regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis - Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, this type allows you to craft items like bandages, zipline gauntlets, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis - Though not directly labeled as Synthesis, this mode, accessed through the radial menu on specific plots of land, involves Yumia in creating storage chests and wall hangings, which the game often refers to as Synthesis.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

The regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex part of the mechanic. To craft a gun staff for Yumia, for instance, you first need to discover the recipe while exploring. You can upgrade these recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here's how to proceed at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Choose the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Select Synthesis Skills if they are available in your skill tree.
  3. Pick the initial Alchemy Core to work with:
    • Effects Alchemy Core enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core boosts the quality level of the finished item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can use.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with the resources you've collected.
  5. Collect mana fragments to further increase the quality of your item.
  6. Complete the Synthesis process to create the item.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide boosts to damage and quality, and allow you to duplicate items, thereby conserving resources.

To enhance item quality, add resources to all three Alchemy Cores by using the left or right bumper while filling the slots. Collecting the mana fragments (yellow sparkles) around each core can significantly strengthen your crafted items, which is advisable for most items except quest-specific ones.

When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the slots, identified by a blue outline. You can also organize your resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, though sometimes focusing on effects might be more beneficial.

If the detailed Synthesis process feels overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after choosing your Synthesis Skills. This option allows the game to automatically create the best possible item, making it easier to tackle even the final boss on Normal difficulty.

That's everything you need to know to fully leverage the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
