Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years: Anniversary Projects and Concert Announced

Square Enix has announced the 30th anniversary of the beloved JRPG, Chrono Trigger. To mark this milestone, they've promised a series of projects launching throughout the coming year. While details remain scarce, the announcement hints at possibilities extending beyond the game itself, fueling fan speculation.

Many longtime fans have eagerly awaited a proper remaster or modern console release. Despite its iconic status as one of the greatest JRPGs, Chrono Trigger has yet to receive a full remake, only seeing a PS1 port in 1999, and later releases on PC and mobile platforms. A definitive modern version remains a cherished hope.

While a remake remains unconfirmed, Square Enix is celebrating with a special event: a YouTube livestream concert featuring Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack. This concert will air on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT and continue into the early hours of the next morning.

For those unfamiliar, Chrono Trigger is a classic time-traveling RPG, developed by a legendary team including Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama.

Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions as they journey through history, encountering dinosaurs, dystopian futures, and recruiting allies to alter the course of time and confront an iconic final boss.

This 30th anniversary is a significant event. Although a remake or console port hasn't been confirmed, Square Enix's announcement keeps the possibility alive. Follow Chrono Trigger's X page for updates on upcoming announcements. Check out this list of the best JRPGs to play on iOS right now!
