Defeating Magical Magus in Persona 4 Golden: Strategies Revealed

Quick Links

Yukiko's Castle serves as the initial dungeon that players will explore in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its modest seven floors, this dungeon is a comprehensive introduction to the game's mechanics, gently ushering players into its combat system.

While the early floors present minimal challenges, the higher floors introduce the formidable Magical Magus, the dungeon's toughest random encounter. Below, you'll find details on its affinities and strategies to defeat it effectively.

The Magical Magus is equipped with skills that can inflict significant damage if you're unprepared. Its attacks are primarily fire-based, so acquiring fire-resistance accessories from golden chests scattered throughout Yukiko's Castle is a smart move. These accessories not only help against the Magical Magus but are also beneficial for the upcoming boss fight.

Be vigilant when the Magical Magus begins to gather magic power; it's a sign that it will use Agilao, a powerful tier two fire spell that can critically damage or even knock out an unprepared party member. Additionally, its Hysterical Slap can deliver substantial physical damage due to its double-hit capability, though Agilao remains the greater threat. In this scenario, it's advisable for the protagonist, who can acquire light skills early on, to lead the fight, while Chie and Yosuke focus on defense to avoid being taken out.

Early-Game Persona With A Light Skill In Persona 4 Golden

The optimal early-game Persona with a light skill is Archangel, which naturally possesses the Hama skill. Archangel also learns Media at level 12, making it an invaluable asset for the final boss fight. As a level 11 Persona, Archangel can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

In Persona 4 Golden, light and dark skills are exclusively insta-kill types, meaning Hama can instantly kill enemies by exploiting their weaknesses. This makes it highly effective, nearly always hitting its target and instantly defeating them, simplifying battles with the dungeon's toughest foes like the Magical Magus. With the right SP restoration items, these encounters can become lucrative farming opportunities, preparing you well for the challenges ahead.
