Exciting news for fans of the Final Fantasy VII series: the third and final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy is set to launch on the PS5. This confirmation comes directly from the game's producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi, who shared this update during an interview with 4Gamer on January 23, 2025.

PlayStation enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that FF7 Remake Part 3 will be available on the PS5. Addressing concerns about the release platforms of previous entries, Kitase reassured fans, stating, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." As the PS5 continues its lifecycle, there's speculation about the trilogy's future on the next PlayStation console, though details about the PS6 remain scarce.

While Square Enix has kept the release date under wraps, development on FF7 Remake Part 3 reportedly started concurrently with Part 2, with full production accelerating post the February 2024 release of FF7 Rebirth. Utilizing assets from the previous games and a completed story draft, the final installment's release might be sooner than expected.
In a recent interview with Famitsu on January 23, 2025, Hamaguchi provided an optimistic update on the game's progress. "It’s going very well," he said. "We started working on the third game right after FFVII Rebirth ended, and we have a build that will confirm what we should aim for as a game by the end of 2024. We can already see the direction of where we will land, so we have been working towards that goal since the beginning of this year. We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it."
Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the story's conclusion, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."

Although the exact release date remains undisclosed, a report from the Washington Post on March 6, 2024, indicated that PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the FF7 Remake trilogy. This means FF7 Remake Part 3 will initially be exclusive to PS5 for a certain period before becoming available on other platforms.
Previous entries followed a similar pattern: FF7 Remake (2020) was a PS4 exclusive for one year before its PC release on Epic Games Store and Steam. FF7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the first game, was exclusive to PS5 for six months before its PC debut. FF7 Rebirth enjoyed timed exclusivity on PS5 before its PC release on January 23, 2025.

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix reported declining sales for its HD titles in its financial results on March 31, 2024. Titles like FF16, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and FF7 Rebirth contributed to this trend.
The company cited increased development costs, advertising expenses, and higher content valuation losses as reasons for the operating losses. In response, Square Enix plans to "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs," aiming to boost sales.
This shift in strategy suggests that more of Square Enix's HD titles could soon appear on Xbox, Switch 2, and other platforms, despite the company's longstanding partnership with PlayStation.
