Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Following a less-than-stellar launch, Civilization 7's developers at Firaxis Games are committed to significant improvements. The focus is squarely on enhancing user interface (UI) usability and overall gameplay experience. Firaxis has acknowledged player concerns and is actively developing solutions.

Currently boasting a 47% positive rating on Steam, the criticism isn't aimed at core mechanics, but rather at a simplified UI, missing features, and a perceived lack of content. Firaxis has prioritized UI enhancements, promising increased map readability, refined menus, and a more intuitive overall interface.

Planned additions include:

  • Multiplayer team functionality.
  • New map types.
  • Customization options (renaming religions and cities).

A balance patch and further improvements, designated update 1.1.0, are scheduled for release in March. The full release of Civilization 7 remains set for February 11th.

Many reviewers feel the game launched prematurely and requires substantial further development. The $70 price point has been heavily criticized, with players arguing it doesn't reflect the game's current state. To regain its former glory, series fans are hoping Firaxis will seriously consider player feedback and deliver updates that effectively address the identified shortcomings.

Civilization enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the seventh installment will eventually live up to the series' established reputation for quality and meticulous detail. However, significant improvements are undeniably needed before this can be achieved.
