Nintendo fans are buzzing with excitement over new filings hinting at a potential GameCube controller for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. As reported by Nintendo Life, a recent FCC filing for a "game controller" aligns with the Switch 2's specifications, suggesting it could be a wireless Bluetooth controller. Internet sleuths, particularly on Famiboards, have delved into the filing images and believe the label location matches that of a GameCube controller, specifically behind the C-Stick.

While there's speculation that this could be a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the prevailing theory is that it's designed for use with Nintendo’s Switch Online subscription service, which already supports wireless classic controllers for retro gaming. This has sparked hopes among fans for a GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online, a long-standing request that could finally be realized with the Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled in January with a trailer highlighting its backwards compatibility and an additional USB-C port. However, many details such as other games and the function of a mysterious new Joy-Con button remain undisclosed, though the "Joy-Con mouse" theory has gained some traction.
Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down, utilizing magnets instead of the original Switch's rails. This could allow players to customize button placement and other features, potentially introducing new gameplay mechanics.

Analysts predict the Switch 2 will be priced between $400 and $500, with a potential release in June. While much remains unknown, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, where more information about the console will be revealed.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy a taste of GameCube nostalgia with Metroid Prime Remastered, available on the current Nintendo Switch.
