Genki, known for its handheld gaming accessories like the PocketPro, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025. Based on a black market acquisition, this model offered a close look at the upcoming console's design. Key features included increased size (approaching the Steam Deck), seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an unidentifiable "C" button.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Cons, explaining that SL and SR buttons utilize magnets and a release pin mechanism. Despite this change from the original Switch's sliding rails, the Joy-Cons remain secure during gameplay.
Genki also revealed that the Joy-Con mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, suggesting potential functionality as a mouse via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to support this. While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit within the original Switch dock; however, design incompatibilities prevent its use. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain unknown.
