Following the March release of Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 and April's Godzilla vs. Hulk #1, this new issue throws Spider-Man into the fray. This retro-styled story is set in the aftermath of 1984's Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. Peter Parker, still adjusting to life after Battleworld and grappling with his newly acquired symbiote suit, faces his greatest challenge yet: Godzilla!
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is penned by Joe Kelly, the writer behind Marvel's upcoming Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, and illustrated by Nick Bradshaw (known for his work on Wolverine and the X-Men). Bradshaw, along with Lee Garbett and Greg Land, contributes to the cover art.
"The moment I heard about a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the '80s, I practically jumped for it," Kelly shared with IGN. "This comic is a chance to go all-out with two legendary characters, capturing the wild energy of the era I was collecting Spider-Man comics. Nick Bradshaw perfectly captures the absurdity of the premise and the atmosphere I envisioned, while simultaneously giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his totally-normal-black-suit!) the gravitas they deserve. It's a love letter delivered with an earth-shattering roar!"
This isn't the first time Western superheroes have tangled with Godzilla. DC Comics recently published Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, with a sequel in the works. However, unlike that series, which featured the MonsterVerse versions, Marvel's comics showcase the classic Toho Godzilla.
This announcement follows the unveiling of IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, a charity anthology benefiting wildfire relief efforts.
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 stomps onto the scene on April 30, 2025. For more on upcoming comic book releases, check out Marvel's and DC's 2025 plans.
