The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, yet there are strong hints from Take-Two Interactive that a PC version could be on the horizon. Dive into the latest updates and insights on GTA 6's development and potential release platforms.
While GTA 6 has not been officially announced for PC, recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest that a PC release might be in the cards. In an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick discussed the release strategy for their games, noting that while Civilization 7 will launch on both console and PC, other titles often follow a staggered release pattern. He remarked, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
This pattern is evident in the release history of previous Rockstar titles. GTA 5 launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC version following in November 2019. Although no official confirmation has been made, Zelnick's comments imply a strong possibility of GTA 6 eventually making its way to PC, even if fans hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms.
Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of the PC platform for their games, stating that a PC version could account for up to 40% of a multiplatform game's total sales. He noted, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance on these platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he explained. Zelnick also anticipates a significant increase in console sales in 2025 due to a robust release schedule from various publishers, including Take-Two. He concluded, "So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, but no specific date has been announced. Stay tuned to our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates and news on the game.
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in bringing their titles to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and noted the evolving demographics of Switch users. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," he said.
Zelnick acknowledged that the Switch has broadened its audience appeal, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 set to launch on the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that other Take-Two and Rockstar titles, including potentially GTA 6, could find their way to the Switch 2 in the future.
