GTA

Big changes are coming for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto on Android. Next month, Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be removed from the Netflix Games catalog.

Why the Departure? License Expiration.

This isn't a surprise move. Netflix licenses games similarly to films and shows. The licenses for these two GTA titles are expiring. A "Leaving Soon" label will appear on the games before their removal.

GTA III and Vice City were added to Netflix Games exactly one year ago, reflecting a 12-month initial agreement between Netflix and Rockstar Games. After December 13th, these games will no longer be accessible to Netflix subscribers.

If you're currently playing either game, it's time to finish up. However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available for now.

What's Next? Purchase Them Separately.

To continue your GTA adventures, you can purchase the Definitive Editions of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City on the Google Play Store. Each game costs $4.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $11.99.

Unlike the sudden removal of titles like Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is providing advance notice. It's noteworthy that Rockstar Games isn't renewing the license, even though Netflix Games saw significant subscriber growth in 2023 partly due to the GTA trilogy.

There are rumors, however, that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on future projects, possibly remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope these rumors prove true!
