Exciting news for fans of the iconic anime and toy franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: a live-action film adaptation is now in full production, thanks to a co-financing agreement between Bandai Namco and Legendary. Initially announced back in 2018, the project had been quiet until recently when Legendary and the newly formed Bandai Namco Filmworks America shared updates, signaling that the wait for the first live-action Gundam film is nearing its end.

The film, yet to receive an official title, will be helmed by Kim Mickle, known for her work on Sweet Tooth. It's slated for a global theatrical release, marking a significant milestone for the franchise that has already produced 25 anime series, 34 animated films, 27 original anime productions, and a highly successful toy line, generating over $900 million annually.

While specific release dates and plot details remain under wraps, Legendary and Bandai Namco have promised to share more information as it becomes available. They've already released a teaser poster, heightening anticipation among fans.

"Mobile Suit Gundam, which began broadcasting in 1979, established the genre of 'real robot anime.' It broke away from the traditional good vs. evil narrative prevalent in robot anime at the time, introducing realistic war scenarios, detailed scientific explorations, and complex human dramas where robots are portrayed as 'weapons' called 'mobile suits.' This approach sparked a massive boom in the genre," the companies stated, underscoring the franchise's significant cultural impact.
