Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Fuels Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Fever With a Picture of a Chocolate Cake

It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. Over these years, fans have witnessed Silksong appearing and disappearing from various showcases, with Microsoft at one point seemingly confirming a launch before June 2023. The Game Awards came and went without a mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The excitement stems from a seemingly innocuous image of a cake. Here's why.

Eagle-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit discovered that on January 15, Team Cherry's co-director, William Pellen, changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake. Pellen's accompanying tweet hinted at something significant: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

At the time, rumors circulated that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 on January 16, which turned out to be true. Although many questions about the next-gen console remain unanswered, fans speculated that Pellen's tweet was a nod to this event. But why?

This sparked intense speculation within the Hollow Knight community. Fans used reverse image search on the cake picture, tracing it back to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024.

Why is this date significant? Because Nintendo has scheduled the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans believe Pellen's tweet and cake photo might be the start of a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG).

The speculation didn't stop there. Fans are now dissecting Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True offered a compelling theory: "The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of 'everydruidwaswr.' I think 'wr' is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC."

The intrigue deepens with Pellen's new X/Twitter name, "little bomey." Fans have noted that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs slightly. What could this mean?

It's crucial to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry listed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. However, that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Hollow Knight: Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just wild speculation from eager fans?

We'll find out in a few months. Until then, be sure to explore everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
