Mobile gaming's innovative game design is a captivating aspect, and Roia perfectly exemplifies this. The unique, buttonless nature of smartphones, combined with their widespread use, has pushed video game development in exciting new directions.

Roia, a clever puzzle-adventure game from Emoak (creators of Paper Climb, Machinaero, and the award-winning Lyxo), is a prime example.

Surprisingly, Roia's core objective is simple: guide a river to the sea. Starting from a mountain peak, players manipulate the terrain using their finger to carefully direct the water's flow.

Emoak's press release highlights the deeply personal connection Roia holds for designer Tobias Sturn. His childhood memories of playing in a creek with his grandfather heavily influenced the game's creation. The game is dedicated to his grandfather, who passed away during its development.

Roia defies easy categorization. While challenges exist, the game's focus is on a relaxing and immersive experience. Players traverse diverse handcrafted environments – forests, meadows, villages – guided by a helpful white bird.

The game's aesthetic aligns with the elegant simplicity of Monument Valley, complemented by a captivating soundtrack composed by Johannes Johannson (also known for his work on Lyxo).
