Konami Unveils Mobile Game: Suikoden STAR LEAP

Exciting news for fans of the iconic RPG series: Suikoden is making a comeback in the form of Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile game announced by Konami and MYTHRIL. This free-to-play title is set to launch on Android and iOS platforms, although a specific release date hasn't been revealed yet. It's expected to hit the app stores later this year, so keep an eye out!

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Suikoden first graced our gaming screens back in 1995. Developed and published by Konami, with Yoshitaka Murayama at the helm, the series draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel, Water Margin, known as Suikoden in Japan. The games are renowned for their intricate political intrigue, the mystical True Runes, and the saga of the 108 Stars of Destiny. With 11 entries, including spin-offs, the last game released was in 2012. Now, instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is bringing us Suikoden STAR LEAP, a mobile RPG.

What's in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while maintaining the series' tradition of assembling 108 heroes. The game keeps the beloved pixel art style, preserving the classic Suikoden aesthetic. You can get a sneak peek in the teaser trailer below.

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have sculpted the world's history. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, has just celebrated his first successful hunt when tragedy strikes—his village is attacked, setting him on a transformative journey. Accompanied by Hisui, his enigmatic servant with suppressed emotions, Shirin, his childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice, and Shapur, a former general now serving as a butler, Hou aims to restore peace.

While the announcement of Suikoden STAR LEAP has stirred excitement, it has also sparked some concerns within the Suikoden community. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a traditional continuation of the series, and the introduction of a gacha-based mobile game has left some feeling uncertain. However, we'll be able to gauge the game's reception more accurately once it's released. In the meantime, you can stay updated by visiting the official website.
