Despite the risk of account bans, players of *Marvel Rivals* continue to use mods, even after a stricter enforcement with the release of Season 1. Since the game's highly successful launch in December, players have been customizing their experience with mods, creating unique skins like turning Iron Man into Vegeta from *Dragon Ball* and Mantis into a goth character. There's even a mod that transforms Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from *Chainsaw Man*.
With the launch of Season 1 and the introduction of the Fantastic Four last week, *Marvel Rivals* implemented a secret mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated to IGN that the game's terms and conditions explicitly prohibit the use of mods, as well as cheats, bots, hacks, or any unauthorized third-party software. NetEase had previously cautioned players about the risks of modding, and they reinforced this warning in their statement to IGN: "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."
Despite these warnings, some players remain undeterred. A workaround for the new restrictions has been discovered and is widely shared online. Although it requires more steps than before, it remains manageable for most PC users. Modder Prafit, who shared their workaround on Nexus Mods, issued a caution: “Use at your own risk,” Prafit warned in the mod's description. They further explained, “By using this, you are circumventing a system that was created to stop us from modding with the Season 1 patch start. No one knows if NetEase will ban you, but they have never issued permanent bans as far as we know.”
New mods have also emerged that capitalize on the addition of Fantastic Four characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the manga *One Piece*. According to Nexus Mods' statistics, this Luffy mod has already been downloaded over 5,000 times in just two days since its release.

The ongoing question among *Marvel Rivals* modders and users is whether NetEase will follow through with their threats of banning players. So far, no confirmed cases of bans due to modding have been reported, but the use of workarounds might prompt further action from NetEase.
NetEase's interest in banning mods stems from several concerns. Apart from potential revenue loss from skin sales and intellectual property issues, mods could disrupt the game's balance and performance. Modder Prafit suggested that their temporary workaround should only be used by those with a "beefy" PC, indicating potential performance impacts.
