With the much-anticipated next season of Daredevil on the horizon, fans are buzzing with excitement, and the creators are already plotting the future, including the possibility of a Defenders reunion. In a comprehensive profile on Entertainment Weekly, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' head of streaming and TV, shared insights into the potential of bringing back the street-level heroes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, collectively known as The Defenders.
While no plans are set in stone, Winderbaum expressed enthusiasm about the concept, stating, "It's certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox... Obviously, we don't have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We're dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television." He further elaborated, "But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again is set to be a direct continuation of the story that began on Netflix. The streaming service once housed its own Marvel universe, featuring shows like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Given Winderbaum's comments, it seems that Daredevil: Born Again could serve as a springboard to bring these characters back into the fold under Disney's banner via Disney Plus. The inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the new season is a testament to this transition, marking another Netflix hero officially moving to the Disney platform.
For now, fans will need to wait until the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again on March 4 to see how the story unfolds and to speculate on how Daredevil might further integrate into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
