If you had any doubts that *Rune Slayer* isn't an MMORPG, let's put those to rest: it has fishing. And as everyone knows, fishing is a staple of MMORPGs. Joking aside, if you're here to master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We struggled with it at first, but we've got the hang of it now and are eager to share how you can catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before you start reeling in the big ones, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll get to those quotation marks in a bit).
Here's the catch: **to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to guy for these essentials.
Head over to Simon and **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms**. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we went with 10 to be safe. **No, you can't equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and although you don't equip them, they're used automatically when you fish. **Each time you catch something, one Worm disappears from your inventory**.
Here's a crucial point: **you won't catch any fish without at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, the fish started biting. We recommend keeping the Worms in your hotbar to monitor your supply. With these essentials in hand, you're ready for the next step.
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it, so just place it in your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier near Simon works well).
Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see **one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
**This method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk. The good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to catch anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up inventory space.
And that's the scoop on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water! For more tips, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
