Minor spoilers ahead for A Minecraft Movie.
The creative minds behind A Minecraft Movie shared with IGN an amusing anecdote about one of the film's funniest scenes, which drew inspiration from the classic film The NeverEnding Story.
In a standout scene, Jack Black's character, Steve, finds himself in a precarious situation, needing to ride on Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, due to a shortage of Elytra wings. Only Garrett and Sebastian Hansen's Henry have wings, leading to a hilarious moment of physical comedy where Steve must cling to Garrett to avoid a perilous fall. This scene was not just about laughs; it was a nod to a beloved cinematic moment.
"We definitely wanted to capture a Falkor moment from *The Neverending Story*—one that's both majestic and beautiful but quickly goes awry," explained *A Minecraft Movie* director Jared Hess."It was hilarious during the breaks between takes," added producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson. "Jack was perched on top of Jason in this intricate rig, and he started singing The NeverEnding Story theme, treating Jason like he was riding Falkor."
This humorous reference is especially poignant as Jack Black previously portrayed Slip in The NeverEnding Story 3. For Jason Momoa, the scene was a personal triumph as he played a key role in its development.
"I was involved in scripting that part, and Jack was all in for it," Momoa said with a chuckle. "This was post-Top Gun: Maverick, so I wanted to incorporate a maneuver where I'd hit the brakes and Jack would slide off, pulling off a switcheroo. We brainstormed this at the hotel, and it ended up in the movie—it's just phenomenal."
Jack Black also hinted at the scene's potential for a more mature rating, saying, "I'm not sure if it made it into the final cut because there were various versions, but it could have easily been rated R. Ultimately, we kept it family-friendly!"

Momoa also shared a light-hearted recreation of their on-set antics, which you can see in the video.
"Let my hips guide you! You can't just ride me like I'm majestic," Momoa jokingly remarked. "I was dying, man. I was dying."
