A bold new era for Superman is on the way, courtesy of James Gunn, and with it comes Nathan Fillion’s take on Green Lantern—specifically, Guy Gardner. In a recent interview with TV Guide, Fillion offered insights into his portrayal of the character, revealing that this version won’t be your typical charming, crowd-pleasing hero.

“He's a jerk!” Fillion stated plainly. “What's important to understand is that you don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern—you just have to be fearless. Guy Gardner is fearless, but he's not exactly virtuous. He's not what you'd call nice—and that creative freedom is really exciting as an actor. You ask yourself, 'What's the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment?' And that’s your answer.”

PlayFillion also touched on the character’s inflated sense of self. “I think if Guy has a real superpower, it might be his overconfidence—he genuinely believes he could take on Superman,” the actor joked. “Spoiler alert: He can't!”

This upcoming *Superman* film marks the first installment in James Gunn’s complete reboot of the DC Universe, kicking off the new Gods and Monsters chapter. But it’s not just Gunn’s universe that’s diving into the Green Lantern mythos—HBO is currently filming its own series titled *Lanterns*, starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. That series is scheduled to debut in 2026.

The new *Superman* film features David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Written and directed by James Gunn, the film is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025—ushering in a fresh, bold direction for DC storytelling.
