Good news for fans - the journey to Sesame Street continues! The iconic children's series, running since 1969, has secured new streaming distribution through Netflix and PBS after HBO and Max concluded their partnership with the show at the end of 2024.
Netflix will host both new episodes and the complete library worldwide, while PBS stations and PBS Kids platforms will air new episodes on their premiere dates. This innovative arrangement combines global streaming access with public broadcasting's educational mission.
The partnership takes an interactive turn as Netflix plans to develop video games based on the series through its gaming platform, including adaptations of the spinoff Sesame Street Mecha Builders.
Season 56 introduces structural changes while preserving beloved elements. Each episode will feature an 11-minute narrative structure, drawing inspiration from character-driven successes like Bluey. Classic segments including Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will continue delighting audiences.
Sesame Street premiered in November 1969, joining PBS in the 1970s. HBO and Max began co-producing new episodes in 2015 under a $35 million agreement, which concluded as the platform shifted away from children's programming. The existing library will remain available on HBO/Max through 2027.
The Sesame Workshop emphasized this "unique public-private partnership" through their announcement, stating it enables the series to continue its mission of helping children grow "smarter, stronger, and kinder."
