Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

The Nintendo Switch 2's price is a hot topic in the gaming world. Analysts at IGN predict a $400 launch price, a figure echoed by a recent Bloomberg report based on Japan-focused analyst predictions. This would be significantly higher than the original Switch, and some analysts even suggest a possible $499 price point. Despite this, the expectation is for a massive launch, potentially the biggest console launch ever, regardless of the final price. Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

This strong launch is anticipated due to a highly anticipated game lineup. Toto expects a new Mario Kart (as hinted by Nintendo), a new 3D Mario title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4, all within the first year. Third-party support is also expected, including Call of Duty from Activision. A strong roster of rumored third-party titles further bolsters this prediction. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis called the Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." Nacon, a French video game publisher, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games ready for release. Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for the Switch 2, and EA has expressed interest in bringing Madden, FIFA, and The Sims to the platform. It's important to note that Activision hasn't officially announced Switch 2 plans, and Nintendo hasn't commented on these reports.

A June 2025 release date is gaining traction in both online and industry circles. Analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg a June launch is expected, with an initial inventory of 6-8 million units. If this initial stock sells quickly, the Switch 2 could outpace its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5 in sales.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of previous U.S. tariffs on the Switch 2's price. However, Bloomberg notes that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, suggesting a diversified manufacturing footprint that mitigates risk for Nintendo.

While much remains unknown, Nintendo plans a Direct presentation for April 2nd to reveal more details about the console.

The January reveal showcased backwards compatibility and a second USB-C port.
