Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con's innovative mouse controls right from the Home screen. Ever since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have eagerly speculated on how the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality would enhance gameplay. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can switch to "mouse mode," allowing players to slide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic a left-click and right-click, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, gamers can use two Joy-Con simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for a versatile experience.
Excitingly, new information has surfaced via the Nintendo Today app and was shared on X/Twitter, revealing that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated by Nintendo Today, "placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down activates a cursor on screen," explained Nintendo. "To display the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it accordingly."

Nintendo further elaborated, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. These mouse controls can be used on the Home menu and in compatible software." When you're ready to revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.
While the full extent of game compatibility with these mouse controls is yet to be disclosed, Nintendo has already showcased the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to debut on June 5. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99 — and the response has been phenomenal. For more details, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
