DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief glimpse of new footage, showcasing John Cena in action. In one scene, Cena smirks at the camera with a fire blazing behind him, and he's told that he's "a superhero now."
In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever." This season marks a significant milestone as it follows the July 11 release of Superman, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DCU. Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise into a fresh direction, moving away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the old DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has teased that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's not yet clear what specific elements will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with the same cast including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the show's storyline.
For fans eagerly awaiting this next chapter, mark your calendars for August 21 and get ready to dive back into the world of Peacemaker on Max.
