Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates

Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero will offer four difficulty settings: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move distances the game from the Soulslike genre, which is known for its high difficulty and lack of adjustable settings. Game Director Soulframe has clarified that Phantom Blade Zero is not aiming to be another Soulslike game. Instead, the focus is on delivering "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."

While the game's dark-themed world and unique boss fights drew initial comparisons to Soulslike titles, Soulframe emphasized that the inspiration stops at the multi-layered maps and exploration elements. He described Phantom Blade Zero as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending hack-and-slash action with extensive area exploration.

Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero is set to offer a rich gameplay experience with over 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique effects and combat styles. The main story is expected to take around 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content for players to explore.

Boss fights in the game will feature at least two phases, with the innovative mechanic allowing players to restart from the second phase if they die, saving them from repeating the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," will enable players to challenge previously defeated bosses and unlock new hidden bosses. Additionally, there's a mechanic that influences the game's ending, though details on how it works and the number of alternate endings remain undisclosed.

The "Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer" showcases the main protagonist, Soul, battling the "Chief Disciple of The Seven Stars." The trailer also highlights various weapons Soul can use, such as the "Weapon No.13 Soft Snake Sword" and "Weapon No.27 White Serpent and Crimson Viper."

The trailer confirms that Phantom Blade Zero's release date will be announced in 2025. The game's official Twitter (X) page celebrated the Lunar New Year with a video, where Soulframe teased more exciting announcements and promised to reveal something unprecedented later in the year.

Currently in development for PlayStation 5, Phantom Blade Zero is also planned for release on PC. No specific release date has been set yet.
