Among the most eagerly awaited releases from last year, one that truly captured my attention was the upcoming Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage. The original Pirates Outlaws was a captivating, swashbuckling roguelike deckbuilder that emerged when the genre was still burgeoning. Now, its sequel is set to launch in the third quarter of this year, and fans are buzzing with excitement.
This sequel, aptly dubbed a "seaquel," transports players back to the enchanting world of New Elysia for another thrilling journey across the ocean waves. Start your adventure by selecting a character, a class ability, and a starting deck, and set sail on your voyage!
Pirates Outlaws 2 introduces a variety of characters, each with seven class options, allowing you to tailor your deck to your preferred playstyle. You can also recruit an animal companion, adding another layer of strategic depth to your battles. With enhanced turn-based combat and a new card evolution tree, you'll have an arsenal of tools at your disposal to conquer the high seas!
Run out the gunsPirates Outlaws 2 promises to be a significantly expanded sequel, offering players the freedom to explore back and forth across the map. With even more permutations and combinations of cards and characters, the game is set to deliver a rich and varied experience. For those on PC, an upcoming Steam demo will be your first opportunity to get your hands on Pirates Outlaws 2!
One aspect that raised a slight concern for me was the animations shown in the reveal trailer, which appeared somewhat static. While fully animating these illustrations can be challenging, I'm hopeful that the final release will feature more dynamic effects when it arrives on mobile later this year.
