Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a safe spot; you need robust defenses. One of the simplest yet effective methods is barricading windows. This guide shows you how.
To board up a window, gather these essential items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have them, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Planks are commonly located at construction sites, or you can salvage them by breaking down wooden furniture in a pinch. Admins can use the "/additem" command to spawn these items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry attempts. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for them to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do this.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass right through them.
