Like its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors: Origins plunges players into the heart of ancient China, allowing them to battle alongside various warlords. However, a crucial decision awaits: choosing a faction. This guide explains the faction selection process in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
The game's initial chapters feature the Wanderer, the player character, operating independently. They'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, participating in key events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without committing to a specific faction.
Chapter 3 marks a turning point. Players are prompted to select a faction before the chapter concludes. While you'll likely have a preference by this stage, the game provides additional battles to solidify your decision.
Progress requires completing a specific number of missions for each faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completion, a new mission triggers, forcing a faction choice. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. However, players can complete all faction missions before making their final decision.

Choosing a faction is permanent. The unchosen factions become inaccessible for the remainder of the game. This impacts side quests, officer interactions, and skill point acquisition. Faction choice can influence difficulty; for instance, allying with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer officers, may limit early skill point opportunities.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, create a separate save file before choosing a faction, allowing you to replay the game with different alliances.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
