Ryan Reynolds pushed Deadpool, X-Men revival early on

While no official pitch has been made to Marvel yet, Ryan Reynolds is allegedly in "early talks" about developing a Deadpool and X-Men crossover film.

As reported by THR, Reynolds envisions this ensemble project featuring Deadpool not as the protagonist, but rather sharing screen time with three or four other X-Men characters. Sources suggest Reynolds specifically wants these other mutants to take prominent roles so they can be "utilized in surprising ways."

This potential film - distinct from the X-Men project Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie is developing - appears to follow a similar development path as Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds has a history of privately developing his concepts for extended periods before presenting them to Marvel. Early iterations of what became Deadpool & Wolverine reportedly envisioned it as a modestly-budgeted road trip film.

While not the first report about Reynolds developing a Deadpool ensemble movie, this update provides clearer insight into the type of narratives being considered for the Merc With a Mouth. As for which X-Men might appear alongside Deadpool, that remains speculative. However, the character has extensive history collaborating with various mutants, having already featured Wolverine, Colossus, Sabertooth, Pyro, and Channing Tatum's Gambit in previous films.
