High-end prebuilt PCs come with a hefty price tag, but savvy shoppers can still snag impressive deals. Currently, Dell is offering the Alienware Aurora R16 with a GeForce RTX 4090 for just $3,699.99, a significant $1,000 off its original price. With the RTX 4090 graphics cards seeing a price hike and standalone cards costing upwards of $2,000, building your own PC might not be as cost-effective as you'd think. Plus, opting for a prebuilt PC gives you the added benefit of an all-inclusive warranty.

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC is packed with powerhouse components: an Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 64GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 4TB NVMe SSD. The 14th gen Intel Core i9-14900KF is the top choice for gaming and productivity, though it runs hot. Thankfully, it's cooled efficiently by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is supported by a robust 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The RTX 4090 is the undisputed leader among GPUs, outshining all competitors. As Chris Coke notes in his review, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." With this GPU, you can enjoy any game at 4K resolution with ultra settings and ray tracing enabled, achieving high framerates even in the most demanding new releases like Black Myth: Wukong or Warhammer Space Marine 2. It's also the go-to card for AI applications, thanks to its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.

A note on RTX 5000 series GPUs

NVIDIA's next-generation RTX 5000 series GPUs are set to launch at the end of January. The RTX 5090 promises even more power, but at a steep price of $2,000 for the Founder's Edition and potential availability issues. The RTX 5080 will retail for $999 but may also face stock challenges. While we'll benchmark these soon, they'll come with less VRAM (16GB vs 24GB) and might not immediately dethrone the RTX 4090 as the top performer.

A note on Alienware's newest "R16" desktop chassis

The R16 represents Alienware's 2024 desktop design, boasting a 40% reduction in volume from previous models. Its airflow system efficiently draws air through side intake vents over the GPU and a front 120mm fan, exhausting via a rear 120mm fan and two top 120mm fans. The 240mm radiator for the all-in-one liquid cooling system is mounted to the top fans. While some configurations might skip the liquid cooling, we strongly recommend it due to its superior performance over Alienware's air cooling solutions. Note that Dell unveiled a new Area 51 chassis at CES 2025, but it closely resembles the R16 in both appearance and design.
