Shovel Knight Leaving Netflix: Devs Seek Mobile Options

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is leaving Netflix Games. Developer Yacht Club Games announced the news on Twitter, stating they are exploring other options for the game's future.

The game will remain available on other platforms, including Switch, Steam, and PlayStation 4. While this is good news for those who own it elsewhere, it's disappointing for Netflix subscribers who only played it through the streaming service.

Yacht Club Games hinted at potential future releases, possibly including a standalone mobile version. However, a concrete timeframe hasn't been given.

The Implications of Subscription Services

The removal highlights a key risk with subscription gaming services: less ownership and reliance on developers for continued access. While Yacht Club Games likely has options for future distribution, the uncertainty remains. A return sometime in 2025 is possible, but not guaranteed.
