Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission has shed new light on the eagerly awaited Silent Hill f, an upcoming entry in the iconic horror franchise set in 1960s Japan. Initially announced in 2022, Silent Hill f promises to immerse players in a "beautiful, therefore terrifying" world, penned by the renowned Japanese visual novel writer Ryukishi07, known for the Higurashi and Umineko series.
After nearly three years of anticipation, fans now have a wealth of new information about Silent Hill f, which aims to 'Find the Beauty in Terror' and present players with a haunting choice set against the backdrop of 1960s Japan.
Konami unveiled a brand-new trailer for Silent Hill f, offering fresh details on the game. It will challenge players to explore the concept of beauty intertwined with terror, culminating in a significant decision in a beautifully eerie setting.
The storyline follows Shimizu Hinkao, an ordinary teenager whose life takes a dark turn when her town becomes engulfed in fog and transforms horrifically. As she navigates this unrecognizable environment, she must solve puzzles, battle bizarre enemies, and fight for survival, all leading up to a pivotal choice. This narrative promises an original tale that welcomes newcomers while sprinkling Easter eggs for long-time fans.
Set in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by Kanayama, Gero, in Gifu Prefecture, Silent Hill f aims to offer a unique Japanese setting.
Creature and character designer Kera shared his excitement and the challenges faced in crafting the game's horrors. "I love the Silent Hill series, and it's been a big influence on me," Kera said. "Particularly, Silent Hill 2's messages on walls, its music, and monster designs have stayed with me. For Silent Hill f, we aimed to bring something fresh to the series while maintaining its core essence. The monster designs were particularly challenging as we sought to differentiate yet honor the series' legacy."
Music is set to play a crucial role in Silent Hill f, with long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage, known for his work on the Dynasty Warriors series, collaborating to craft the game's auditory landscape. Inage described his approach: "I have composed music for an unsettling yet beautiful world that uses imagery from shrines, blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient echoes. My goal was to connect players emotionally to the protagonist's journey through her agony, internal conflict, and fear."
While a release date remains undisclosed, Silent Hill f is confirmed for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
