Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to be a topic of fervent interest among fans, with recent updates from Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, providing reassurance that the game is indeed real and actively in development. Dive into the latest details and the swirling speculations around this eagerly awaited sequel!
Following the buzz about a mysterious cake image that sparked numerous speculations, Hollow Knight fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Matthew "Leth" Griffin, Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the situation. He responded to a fan's desperate plea for confirmation that Silksong is still in the works, stating unequivocally that "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release."
The speculation began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to a cake, leading fans to wonder if this was a hint at an upcoming Silksong announcement or even an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) linked to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn, after reaching out to Griffin, clarified that the cake image was nothing more than a harmless change, tweeting, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."
Despite the false alarm, Griffin's confirmation marks the first substantial update on Silksong in over a year and a half, reigniting hope among the fanbase.
First unveiled in February 2019, Silksong was initially planned for release in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, explaining that the game had grown significantly and they aimed to enhance it further. They revealed that Silksong would introduce players to a new kingdom, feature nearly 150 new enemies, and include a new difficulty mode called Silk Soul mode.
Now, approaching two years since the delay, fans have received their first update, albeit small, from Team Cherry. Reactions have been mixed, with some expressing gratitude and encouragement, urging the team not to rush due to external pressures. Others, however, are growing increasingly impatient, feeling that the updates provided are too minimal for such a long-awaited game.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on multiple platforms including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on her perilous journey through a new world to reach the kingdom’s peak. While a specific release window remains undisclosed, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates and announcements.
