Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has raced past another significant milestone, now ranking as the second highest-grossing video game movie adaptation in North America. With Keanu Reeves joining the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog, the film has accumulated over $204 million domestically after earning $11 million during its fourth weekend across 3,582 locations. Its global earnings stand at an impressive $384.8 million.

The film has surpassed its predecessor, Sonic 2, in the domestic box office rankings. However, it remains far behind the top-earning video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which amassed a staggering $574,934,330 domestically and a global total of $1,359,146,628. While these records might seem unbeatable, upcoming releases like the Minecraft movie and the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel could potentially come close.

Despite the gap, the team behind Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is celebrating a major success for Paramount, which has already greenlit Sonic 4.
