Square Enix has officially canceled its mobile spin-off, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, an ARPG that promised to explore a previously untold chapter in the Kingdom Hearts saga. Despite much anticipation, particularly around its Android closed beta test, the project faced multiple delays, leading to its ultimate cancellation. The company has now shifted its focus entirely to the development of Kingdom Hearts IV.

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was set to introduce innovative gameplay by integrating GPS technology with ARPG battles, allowing players to wield keyblades against the Heartless across various global locations. Although the exact mechanics of the GPS feature were never fully clarified, this unique element was a central attraction of the game. However, the complexities and uncertainties surrounding this feature may have contributed to the decision to cancel the project.

ytBe there or be squareSquare Enix's decision to cancel mobile projects has become a recurring theme, often attributed to the dense and critically acclaimed nature of their game catalog. While new mobile releases are well-received in Japan, finding an international audience can be challenging. Despite the potential global appeal of Kingdom Hearts, it seems that the core concept of Missing-Link was too difficult to execute effectively, prompting Square Enix to redirect resources towards the next major installment in the series, Kingdom Hearts IV.
