StarCraft Mini-Set for Hearthstone: Details and Release Date Revealed

Summary

  • Hearthstone's Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set features 49 new cards, the largest in history, and launches on January 21.
  • The Mini-Set includes class and multi-class StarCraft faction cards, like Zerg for Death Knight and Protoss for Druid.

Hearthstone has unveiled exciting details about the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, set to launch on January 21. This Mini-Set, the largest in Hearthstone's history, introduces 49 new cards, including class cards, multi-class StarCraft faction cards, and a unique factionless neutral Legendary card.

During the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, Hearthstone introduced the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set as part of The Great Dark Beyond expansion. This crossover event between Hearthstone and Blizzard's beloved yet underappreciated science fiction RTS, StarCraft, initially provided only basic information, with more details promised post-new year.

Two months later, Hearthstone has fully revealed this expansive micro-expansion. Heroes of StarCraft boasts 49 brand-new cards, surpassing typical Mini-Sets by 11 cards. Each Hearthstone class receives three cards, while the three StarCraft factions—Zerg, Protoss, and Terran—are represented by five cards each, tailored to specific classes, including one Legendary per faction. Additionally, the Mini-Set includes a neutral Legendary card, Grunty. Hearthstone has already showcased some of these cards, with more reveals scheduled in the week leading up to the Mini-Set's release.

The Zerg cards, available to Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock, emphasize summoning numerous Zerglings and utilizing the Hydralisk to deal damage based on swarm size. The Protoss cards for Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue focus on mana manipulation, enabling the early play of high-cost cards like the Carrier. Meanwhile, the Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior classes gain access to the Starship mechanic from The Great Dark Beyond set, with new Starship Pieces, strategies for launching multiple Starships, and a special Mech-type Starship.

Despite its larger size, the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set comes with a higher price tag. While the cards can be obtained from The Great Dark Beyond packs, players can purchase a complete set of Heroes of StarCraft cards for $20 or 2500 gold—$5 and 500 gold more than standard Mini-Sets—or opt for the all-Golden version at $80 or 12,000 gold, instead of the usual $70 and 10,000 gold. Fans can also buy faction-specific packs for $10 or 1200 gold, featuring cards from Protoss, Terran, or Zerg.

To celebrate the Mini-Set's release, Hearthstone is hosting two streamed events: StarCast on January 23 at 10 AM PST, featuring StarCraft legends TrumpSC and Day9 playing with the new cards, and HearthCraft on January 24 at 9 AM PST, where Hearthstone community creators will represent each faction in matches and mini-games. Viewers can earn two normal and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs by watching these events on Twitch, ensuring fans don't miss out on the free cards.
