Suikoden's latest addition, Suikoden STAR LEAP, aims to deliver a gaming experience that rivals console games. In an insightful interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the developers of Star Leap shared their vision and approach to the game.

Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained the rationale behind choosing mobile as the platform: "We wanted to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible, and mobile is the most convenient hardware for that. Yet, we're committed to preserving the essence of Suikoden, striving to create a game that feels like a true numbered entry in the series."

The team's goal is to merge the high-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling of console games with the accessibility of mobile platforms, ensuring that players can enjoy a rich Suikoden experience on the go.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized the unique blend of war themes and friendship that defines Suikoden, stating, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to convey the narrative of the new 108 stars, maintaining the series' signature elements."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan highlighted the series' distinctive atmosphere, combining light-hearted moments among friends with more serious scenes. He also noted the fast-paced battles and cooperative gameplay as hallmarks of Suikoden, saying, "The tempo of the battles and the involvement of many characters working together are what make Suikoden stand out."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap will serve as both a sequel and prequel, weaving through different eras within the Suikoden universe. This new installment will be an integral part of the series' official timeline, starting two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spanning across various periods.
