Lizzy Caplan reveals Channing Tatum's scrapped Gambit movie had a unique twist: a 1930s screwball romantic comedy within the superhero genre.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Caplan, who was slated to star opposite Tatum, described the film's concept as "a really cool idea." The project, which had a planned start date, ultimately fell victim to the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, leaving Tatum reportedly "traumatized" by the experience. His long-fought quest to portray the beloved X-Men character seemed dashed before his surprise cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating she'd signed on and held meetings with Tatum. Producer Simon Kinberg previously hinted at the film's comedic direction, telling IGN in 2018 that it would have a "romantic or sex comedy vibe," fitting Gambit's character.

Caplan corroborated this, explaining the intended approach: "They wanted to do, like, a '30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world, which would have been really fun."

The future of Tatum's Gambit remains uncertain, though Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men integration into the MCU leaves the door open for possibilities. Last August, Ryan Reynolds' tweet of a clarified Deadpool & Wolverine scene fueled further speculation among fans.
