Dead Rising is Getting Remastered

Capcom Unveils Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: A Zombie Classic Returns

Nearly a decade after the release of Dead Rising 4 in 2016, Capcom has announced a remastered version of the original Dead Rising game. Following several successful installments on Xbox 360, and the mixed reception of Dead Rising 4, the franchise largely went dormant. While the original 2006 title was initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, an enhanced version later appeared on other platforms leading up to Dead Rising 4.

The success of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, including the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes and newer entries like Resident Evil Village, likely overshadowed the Dead Rising franchise for years. Now, eight years later, Capcom is giving the original Dead Rising a current-gen remaster, titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

A brief 40-second YouTube trailer showcases the game's iconic opening sequence: protagonist Frank West's helicopter jump into a zombie-filled mall. While specific platforms and a release date haven't been confirmed, a late 2024 launch is anticipated.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: Enhanced Experience

Even with a prior enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2016, this remaster promises improved visuals and performance. This raises questions about whether future Dead Rising sequels will receive similar treatment, given their age. However, Capcom's focus on remasters rather than full-scale remakes suggests that the proven success of the Resident Evil remakes is a key factor. Simultaneously tackling remakes for two zombie franchises might be considered too resource-intensive. Nevertheless, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains.

2024 has already seen a wave of successful remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Braid: Anniversary Edition, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch this year, it would join other revived Xbox 360 titles such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP, and Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.
