CD Projekt Red has issued an urgent alert about fraudulent Witcher 4 beta test invitations circulating online. Read on for details about the studio's official statement and their bold choice of Ciri as the new protagonist for The Witcher 4.
The developers of The Witcher 4 are sounding the alarm about a growing phishing scam targeting eager fans. On April 16, CD Projekt Red took to The Witcher's official Twitter account to warn players about fake beta test invitations being distributed.
Their statement advised: "We're actively working to take down these fraudulent messages. If you receive any suspicious invites or see unauthorized announcements, please report them immediately through your email provider or social media platform's reporting tools."
The studio emphasized that all legitimate beta testing opportunities will be announced exclusively through their official channels first.
The Witcher 4 made its grand debut at The Game Awards in December 2024 with a cinematic trailer featuring Ciri as the protagonist. This marked a significant departure from the series' tradition of starring Geralt, sparking lively discussions within the fan community.
In a VGC interview, Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed fan reactions to this major change. While acknowledging Geralt's popularity, Weber assured players the team has carefully considered this creative direction for years.
"We understand the attachment to Geralt," Weber noted, "but we're confident we can deliver an equally compelling experience with Ciri. This wasn't a decision we made lightly - we've been developing this concept for a long time."
Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga expressed appreciation for the passionate fan feedback, stating: "We welcome all perspectives - they come from genuine love for our games. Ultimately though, we believe the game itself will be the best response when players experience it firsthand."
According to the developers, The Witcher 4 aims to be the most expansive entry in the series yet, introducing new territories to explore and creatures to battle. The game is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, though no specific release date has been announced.
