Second Dinner Switches from Nuverse to Skystone Games for Marvel Snap Publishing

In a surprising turn of events, Second Dinner, the developer behind the popular game Marvel Snap, has officially severed ties with their previous publisher, Nuverse. This decision comes in the aftermath of Marvel Snap being abruptly removed from app stores due to the broader implications of Bytedance's TikTok ban. Second Dinner announced on their official Twitter that they have now partnered with the US-based publisher, Skystone Games, marking a significant shift in their publishing strategy.

This development is the latest in a series of dramatic events affecting games published by Nuverse and other Bytedance subsidiaries, including titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Marvel Snap. These games were inadvertently caught in the crossfire when Bytedance attempted a strategic move to mitigate the effects of the TikTok ban, which was initially instigated by then president-elect Donald Trump. Although Trump later promised to restore service, and TikTok quickly bounced back, other Bytedance-affiliated gaming apps were not so fortunate.

Second Dinner was left in the dark about Marvel Snap's removal from app stores and spent several weeks scrambling to restore service. This lack of communication and support from Nuverse likely played a significant role in Second Dinner's decision to part ways. The swift transition to Skystone Games suggests that Nuverse may be facing substantial repercussions from other developers as well.

Avengers disassembledIt's not surprising that Second Dinner chose to move on from Nuverse. Bytedance's focus on salvaging TikTok may have inadvertently undermined their gaming ventures. Second Dinner's experience, coupled with the rapid change in publishers, indicates a broader discontent among developers affected by Bytedance's actions.

While the geopolitical aspects of this situation are noteworthy, the more pressing concern is whether Bytedance's efforts to keep TikTok afloat have compromised their gaming ambitions. Second Dinner's move certainly suggests that this might be the case.
