Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by renowned streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. In a post on X, the studio shared, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, inquiring if any studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm along with industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, who have worked on games like Call of Duty and Halo. The studio's debut project, Deadrop, was envisioned as a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) that would leverage the team's extensive experience. Despite aiming for a 2024 release, Deadrop failed to meet its deadline.

The studio parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had engaged in inappropriate messaging with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, Midnight Society continued to develop Deadrop until its closure this year.

Deadrop was set in a unique fictional universe where "the 80s never ended." The game featured characters sporting Daft Punk-inspired helmets and wielding a mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising a thrilling experience for players.

The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing difficulties in the current challenging climate of the gaming industry. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others have also experienced closures or layoffs, highlighting the tough times many in the industry are enduring.
