The iconic Master Chief, the face of the Halo franchise (even if hidden behind a helmet), is a highly sought-after Fortnite skin. His return to the item shop after a two-year hiatus was met with excitement, but a controversy quickly emerged.
Initially, an exclusive Matte Black style was offered only to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some disgruntled fans even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the change violated established terms. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most prudent decision. Given the holiday season and the festive spirit of Christmas, such a contentious move would have undoubtedly soured the experience for many players.
