Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The first issue boasts cover art from Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. A serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a sequel to Pires' sci-fi series Indigo Children, will also be featured.
Image Comics provides the following synopsis:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to secure the boundary between worlds. However, a recent catastrophic event in Montana has disrupted the balance, threatening both realms. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must now confront this escalating threat.
Pires shared his excitement with IGN:
"I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something Is Killing the Children with the intricate world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with," he stated. "The protagonist's spiky white hair and large sword are a direct tribute to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic design for Cloud in Final Fantasy."
He continued, "The 'Lost' in the title is a subtle homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a criminally underrated masterpiece from Mistwalker."
