Gandhi's Legacy Uncertain in Civilization 7

Civilization VII has arrived, but a familiar face is missing: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since 1991, his absence has sparked considerable discussion among fans.

Gandhi's omission isn't due to oversight, according to Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach. In a recent interview, Beach confirmed that Gandhi's inclusion is planned, but as part of future DLC. This follows a similar pattern seen in previous installments, where iconic civilizations like Mongolia and Persia were initially absent from the base game.

Beach explained that Firaxis prioritizes a balance between established favorites and fresh additions to keep the game exciting. While some key civilizations, including Great Britain (arriving in March 2025 as part of DLC), are absent from the launch, a broader roadmap ensures their eventual inclusion. This roadmap also holds promise for Gandhi's return.

The developer acknowledged the mixed reception of Civilization VII on Steam, citing concerns about the user interface, map variety, and missing features. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed confidence that the game's performance will improve as players become more familiar with it.
